Alpine skiing in Serfaus, ski tours and holidays in Serfaus from the tour operator Intourist. Serfaus – ski resort Fiss Ladis

When children are happy, their parents are doubly happy. And Serfaus is exactly the resort where happiness is in the air. You can even hear it: it sounds like children's laughter and squealing coming from the playgrounds where ski school classes are taking place.

And when little skiers proudly compete in their first competitions, and then ski on real adult slopes, we can say with confidence: the family vacation was a complete success.

Read about other joys that come from holidaying with children in Serfaus in Kidpassage's review.

Serfaus on the map of Austria

Serfaus (Zerfaus) is a commune in western Austria, in the federal state of Tyrol, as part of the Landeck district (the administrative center is the city of Landeck). The distance from Serfaus to Landeck is 26 km, to Innsbruck - 97 km, to Salzburg - 280 km, to Munich (Germany) - 185 km, to Vaduz (Liechtenstein) - 126 km.

In 1999, the municipality of Serfaus merged with neighboring villages to form the ski resort of Serfaus - Fiss - Ladis. Also within a radius of 20 km there are three more ski areas: Nauders, Ried, Kaunertal glacier (3160 m). All of them are united by a single ski pass.

Not far from the places where Serfaus is located, on the border of Austria and Switzerland, there is another famous winter resort - Ischgl. In this part of the Alps, the mountains climb up to 3000 meters, so there is snow from late autumn to mid-spring.

Vacation with children

The Serfaus ski resort is bluntly called a children's resort. Not because of the small number of trails - there are many of them, and there are even more difficult ones than simple ones.

The secret is this: the resort's children's ski schools are among the best in Europe, and children in Serfaus don't just start skiing, but fall in love with this activity for life.

A trip to Serfaus with children is usually filled with all sorts of activities. Even if the child does not spend all his energy in classes and in the snow town, you can spend time with him on the toboggan run, at the skating rink, or playing curling.

And after such a busy day, a cozy hotel will be waiting for you, where all the conditions have been created for you to relax comfortably with your child. This applies to cribs, leisure activities, and meals for the youngest guests. Families with an infant will appreciate the set of necessary accessories for caring for the baby.

Summer holidays in Serfaus are not inferior to winter holidays in terms of the number of interesting things to do. And even if the weather at the resort is not warm, this is not a hindrance for active pastime. In the summer, there are amusement parks for children in Serfaus, but instead of attractions there are adventure trails and water play areas.

In addition, in the warm season it is easier to go on excursions: a trip to Innsbruck or a trip to the Principality of Liechtenstein will bring a lot of fun to the whole family.

Please note that Serfaus lies at quite high altitudes, and acclimatization may take several days for a child.

When is the best time to go?

The winter season in Serfaus starts in the second week of December and lasts until mid or late April. Usually at this time the mountains are covered with snow, the weather remains frosty, and everything is favorable for skiing.

But not even good snow cover serves as a signal for the opening of the season in Serfaus. The main event, which attracts a huge number of spectators, is Adventure Night show. It is first shown at the end of December, and the last time is in mid-April (this marks the end of the season).

When is the best time to go to Serfaus? If you don’t want to stand in line at the ski lifts, choose mid-January, the second half of March and early April for your trip. At the beginning of December, the resort is still not at full capacity; there are a lot of vacationers here on Christmas, New Year and February-March, and in April there may be problems with snow.

You can also plan a vacation with your child in the summer. The weather in the summer months is not hot, often rainy, but sunny days are not uncommon. It is best to travel to Serfaus with a baby in the summer, since winter is often very frosty.

Weather and climate

The climate of Serfaus may not seem very welcoming. From November to March the resort is frosty, and in the summer the air does not even warm up to +20° C. But this weather also has its pleasant moments.

The first advantage is a long and snowy winter. By the end of November, there is a 10-centimeter layer of snow in Serfaus. The air temperature drops to zero during the day and to -5-12° C at night.

In December, the thickness of the snow cover reaches 40 cm, and snowfalls do not stop until April. The temperature drops to -3-10°C during the day and to -4-15°C at night.

In January and February, the weather is similar, but night frosts can intensify: occasionally the resort gets cold down to -22-30° C. Clear days alternate with cloudy ones, only the end of winter is usually very gloomy.

The time for the best holiday in Serfaus with children comes with the arrival of spring. Daytime temperatures range from -5°C to +5°C, although nights remain winter-like frosty.

In April the air warms up to +2-6° C, but with the onset of darkness it becomes sharply cold. In May, snowfalls give way to rains - they will rain all summer.

The temperature gradually increases, from +7-13° C to +10-20° C in July-August. Despite the heavy rains, the weather in Serfaus is most often sunny, but not hot - this is the second advantage of the resort.

When planning a holiday in Serfaus for the summer, be sure to take warm clothes with you, because at night the temperature can drop to zero.

Autumn at the resort is early and quite cold. Already in September, night frosts are possible, and during the day the temperature barely rises to +6-12° C. In October it gets colder to +2-9° C.

Transport

The city's public transport in Serfaus is unusual: instead of ski buses, there is the Dorfbahn, a silent hovercraft metro. The metro is free and trains run from 8:00 to 19:00 and until midnight on Wednesdays during Adventure Night. The exact schedule is on the resort's tourism website.

But driving in Serfaus is prohibited.

If you are going on vacation by car, you will be able to get to the hotel upon arrival, but further within the resort you will need to travel on foot or by metro. In Fissa and Ladis, the travel ban applies only at night.

To travel around Serfaus all year round, you can use intercity bus number 4236, which runs several times a day. An adult ticket for a trip from Serfaus to Fiss and Ladis costs about 3 euros, tickets for children are half the price. The same bus can take you to Landeck, from where trains go to Innsbruck and Salzburg.

It is believed that Ladis is a more budget place, Fiss is mid-range and Serfaus is in the upper price category. Serving traditional Tyrolean dishes, the highlight is often the location and shape of the restaurant: many are located on the mountain, where they offer panoramic views, and there is a bar in the form of a cube with mirrored glass that hangs over the valley.

  • visit the viewing platforms.

Particularly interesting: from the parking lot to the ski lifts there is a local village metro with 4 stations, which connects all three villages. The train runs on a cushion of air and is silent. Its construction is considered unique in Austria; there is an analogue of a similar device in Italy. It will definitely be interesting to try out such an unusual and convenient device in remote conditions from civilization. Serfaus- a specialized resort, focused mainly on ski holidays with children. The resort began to actively develop several years ago after the merger of the ski areas of the villages of Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis into a single ski region. The resort's pistes are wide and well prepared. The lifts are comfortable and modern. The village is pedestrian, there are no ski buses running either around the resort or between the villages. There is a silent underground metro line on an “air cushion” with 4 stations. Travel on the metro is free.

Skiing in this region is mainly for children, beginners and intermediate skiers. There are not many trails for professionals.

SELECTION OF A TOUR TO SURFAU

Resort statistics:

  • Minimum altitude - 1200 m
  • Maximum altitude - 2700 m
  • Beginning of the season - December
  • End of season - April

Lifts:

  • 32 rope tows
  • 9 chairlifts
  • 8 telecabins
  • 1 funicular

Trails:

  • total of 180 km of ski slopes + 111 km of cross-country ski slopes
  • "Blues" - 36%
  • "Reds" - 59%
  • "Black" - 5%

Characteristics of the tracks:

The slope equipment and piste markings are almost flawless. Here the descents are usually named rather than numbered. The overall connectivity of the ski areas is quite satisfactory, except for the presence of rope tows at the key junctions between Mindersjoch and Scheid, as well as on the northern red slopes of Schoenjoch.

  • For professionals: There are only five black runs at the resort. The most difficult descent is “Lazid Nord” (length - 2.8 km, drop - 400 m): steep relief rifts and heterogeneous coverage of snow mixed with ice. Next in difficulty are the Gfallfbfahrt and Waldfbfahrt trails, each 2.5 km long, with a drop of 420 m. Both trails are spacious, but steep. Masner-Alm-Abfahrt (1.6 km, drop 230 m) is one of the steepest and most relief slopes in the region. However, the local black slopes will not offer anything extremely difficult or more or less remarkable to an expert.
  • For intermediate level: There is not a single ski lift in Serfaus from which some red run does not start. "Red" skiing in Serfaus is more than comfortable. The most interesting slopes are the rather steep Mindersabfart piste from Mindersjoch (2684 m), as well as a bunch of red slopes on the northern slope of Schoenjoch (2509 m), which are wide and straight slides, ending with an extraordinary beauty panoramic descent to Fiss or Ladis. One of the most pleasant trails is the Moosabfart, which is easy and short.
  • For beginners: Komperdell (1980 m) is the most crowded place. The brightly decorated children's lift "Pendelbahn" comes here. From here descends the wide flat slope "Gampenabfart" (1.2 km), which then turns into "Mittelabfart" (3.5 km ) and leads to the lower station of the lift. Perhaps the most interesting terrain of all the blue slopes is “Lawensabfahrt” (2.5 km): the moderate width and steepness of the slope does not allow beginners to relax, due to the constantly changing pattern of the Blue relief. The trails are well-groomed and snow-covered to a plus level.
  • Snowboard. For freestyle skiing there is one fan park each in Fiss and Serfaus. For freeride, Rendl is more suitable (from Zwölferkopf to the right towards the Urgatal route). According to the Austrian snowboarders themselves, Serfaus is the best resort in Austria for this sport.
