Val di Fiemme: where to ride

Above the resort there are three main ski areas: Alpe Cermis, Latemar and Bellamonte, with more compact Passo Rolle and Passo Lavaze-Oclini nearby. The most interesting and varied ski area is Latemar, which can be easily reached from Predazzo. All ski areas of Val di Fiemme are connected by ski buses. Bellamonte is connected by a system of trails to the vast Tre Valle region (Italian Three Valleys).

There are not many difficult trails; this region cannot be called the best choice for expert skiing. An interesting and quite long (5 km) black trail is laid on the Alpe Cermis slope. For intermediate skiers, the slopes of the Latemar area will be convenient; you can get to this area by climbing from the village of Pampeago (1757 m). In this sector there is an extensive network of lifts (cabin and chairlifts) and various slopes, mainly blue and easy red ones. The Caserina area offers scenic and not too steep pistes for intermediate skiers. The slopes of Bellemonte and the track on the northwest side of Alpe Cermis are good for beginners. You cannot go down to the villages of Cavalese and Predazzo on skis; you have to go back by ski lift or bus. Latemar has an extensive snow park with jumps, rails and a boardercross track; a half-pipe (80 m) is usually built nearby. The most convenient resort for skiing in Latemar is Obereggen. There is an excellent choice of accommodation and a more developed infrastructure in the town of Moena, but ski in/out is not possible there; you need to get to the nearest ski lifts by car/bus (from 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the chosen ski sector.

Val di Fiemme: not only skiing

Most of the good resort hotels have their own spa centers. In addition, the villages of the valley have two indoor swimming pools, three ice stadiums, two tennis courts, a sports center, billiards, a beauty center and fitness centers. The valley has good opportunities for cross-country skiing enthusiasts (there are more than 150 km of trails, the valley has hosted the World Ski Championships three times), and there are also routes for snowshoeing. From Val di Fiemme you can go on excursions to neighboring cities - Verona, Venice, Trentino, and Innsbruck is not very far away.

Val di Fiemme: with children

Val di Fiemme has separate ski areas with special children's lifts. There are children's parks in different areas of the valley, where children are taught the basics of skiing or simply play, walk and are provided with lunch. There are children's ski schools in all major villages of the valley.

Group classes for adults at the resorts of this valley cost from 130 euros (5 days for 3 hours), individual classes - approximately 40 euros for 1 hour.

- Be prepared for the fact that most ski instructors do not speak Russian (Italian, German and, less often, English are the local standard).
- When planning a trip to the Sella Ronda or to other remote valleys, carefully study the opening times of the lifts. Getting “stuck” in a neighboring or not quite neighboring valley is an expensive proposition: traveling between resorts on skis is much faster than by road, and a taxi ride can be quite expensive.
- Avoid riding the Sella Ronda during peak periods, otherwise you may end up spending a lot of time in queues.
- Ticket to ski-express (bus between the towns of the valley, running between the resorts) - paid (7 euros for a week or one-time - 3 euros), children under 6 years old - free. Tickets can be purchased at hotels and apartments, tourism offices, and ticket offices. The bus ticket is valid ONLY if you have a ski pass. During high season, buses run every 15 minutes, at the beginning/end of the season - less frequently.
- Parking at the lower lift stations is usually paid (from 5 euros/day).
- Some villages are not accessible on skis.
- For beginners, there is no need to purchase quite expensive ski passes for the entire Dolomites Superski or Skirama region, it is enough to purchase a local Val di Fiemme ski pass.

Val di Fiemme is one of the most famous and visited ski resorts. It is located in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, forming a unique gateway to a picturesque and snow-covered world Dolomites. Every year, international skiing competitions are held on the local slopes, including World Cup stages, bringing together the strongest skiers on the planet. The resort area consists of 11 small towns, home to about 18 thousand local residents. There are convenient transport links between all ski areas, and the high-speed, high-tech ski lifts that are equipped on the slopes allow tourists not only to move freely throughout the ski region, but also to admire the alpine landscapes that shape the appearance of Val di Fiemme.

The resort's snowy slopes are mainly intended for beginners and intermediate skiers, while the infrastructure here is clearly designed for family holidays. Usually people come here just to have fun, admire the wonderful landscapes of the Dolomites, and at the same time go skiing. It is not customary here to torment yourself with endless descents and ascents, and sitting in a restaurant with a cup of hot coffee, enjoying nature, without taking off your ski suit, is considered one of the most common ways to spend leisure time here.

The overall dimensions of the Val di Fiemme valley are small. Only 25 by 6 kilometers. However, this gives the resort a number of advantages. It is compact, all the slopes have an abundance of high-quality snow cover, and by cable car you can quickly reach any ski area. The administrative center of Val di Fiemme is the town of Cavalese, located in the western part of the valley. It is a small settlement with narrow streets and low houses of medieval type. The city is divided into two parts by the Rio Gambis river, which gives it an even more romantic touch. It is located right at the foot of the Dolomites and has hotels of three and four stars. There is also a sports complex, several shops and restaurants that have a very presentable appearance. Overall, this is a nice little place to relax, in peace and quiet, among beautiful nature, with excellent views from the hotel rooms. Just a couple of tens of kilometers from Cavalese is the equally quiet and cozy Predazzo, with only one four-star hotel, but a slightly closer and more comfortable location relative to the ski lifts. The remaining towns of Val di Fiemme are scattered around the entire perimeter of the valley and are very tiny in size.

The most popular ski areas in the resort are Alpe Cermis, Bellamonte and Latemar. Between all tourist villages, from eight in the morning to six in the evening, a free bus runs daily, transporting those interested to their destinations.

Alpe Cermis is located at an altitude of about 2200 meters above sea level and is characterized by high quality snow cover, as well as significant elevation changes. For “pros” there are two routes at once, and for beginners and intermediate skiers, routes with a length of about 20 kilometers have been prepared. Not far from here lies the small cozy village of Tesero, with a picturesque lake, which turns into an excellent skating rink during the ski season. For skiers, the ideal skiing area here is the Latemar area, where, in addition to excellent entry-level and intermediate-level slopes, there is a snow park for snowboarders and a couple of tens of kilometers of trails for cross-country skiing fans. The Bellamonte ski area is located in the Travignolo Valley, at an altitude of just over 1300 meters above sea level. Among the 16 excellently equipped slopes, three belong to top-class masters, and the rest are distributed between intermediate and beginner skiers. Most of the routes run through forests, which makes skiing in these places even more interesting and eventful.

At a fairly significant distance from Bellamonte, beyond the Passo Lavaze pass, in the Ega valley, at an altitude of 1550 meters, lies another popular ski area belonging to the Val di Fiemme region, Oberaggen. It is popular among beginners and intermediate skiers. In addition, there are trails for cross-country skiing enthusiasts. For snowboarders, there is a snow park at the Ski-center Latemar. The town has several good hotels with a high level of comfort and affordability. The proximity to the ski lifts is their advantage. Otherwise, it is not much different from other resort areas in the region.

In addition to the abundance of all kinds of winter sports, there are many other temptations in Val di Fiemme. Almost all resorts have modern sports centers at their disposal, where you can swim in the pool, visit the gym, play basketball, tennis or football. Numerous restaurants always offer visiting gourmets a variety of national dishes and desserts. In addition, the region's provincial towns are of particular interest to history and sightseeing buffs. In Predazzo there is a museum of geology and ethnography, in Cavalese there is a famous Franciscan monastery And Church of Saint Villo. Also in Val di Fiemme there are two national parks, with rare tree species growing in them, among which red spruce grows. It was from this that the great Stradivari made his violins, and then played brilliant music on them.

Val di Fiemme has been one of the leaders of the Italian ski industry for many years, enjoying high prestige in Europe and attracting thousands of winter sports enthusiasts to its resorts every year. There are especially large crowds here during international competitions, when hotels are filled to capacity and the tracks become noisy and crowded. On such days, hotel rooms should be booked in advance, as there is a high risk of being left without a hotel. Overall, Val di Fiemme is an excellent holiday destination for both the whole family and a cheerful group, and the picturesque landscapes and high quality pistes are ideal for a pleasant time on the slopes of the Dolomites.

The resort of Val di Fiemme is a kind of gateway to the Dolomites. Lively resort towns are scattered throughout the wide, sun-drenched valley.
